Job Description

Missions

The candidate (M/F) will participate in the research project as part of the ANR BMOP4App project, focusing on the development of structured materials for the recovery of strategic metals and their use in catalysis.
As part of the LTSM team (Laboratoire de Tri ionique par des Systèmes Moléculaires auto-assemblés), the candidate (M/F) will contribute to research activities in the field of strategic metal recycling.
The candidate (M/F) will primarily contribute their expertise in the implementation of functional systems enabling immobilization on mesoporous materials with an affinity for the extraction of strategic metals such as palladium.
The candidate (M/F) initial tasks will consist of the multi-step synthesis of extractants to be immobilized on our partner's materials, followed by the establishment of solid-liquid extraction conditions for the recovery of strategic metals from these functionalized materials.

Activity

-Perform the organic synthesis of an extractant that can be immobilized on mesoporous hybrid materials.
-Evaluate the extraction performance of the functionalized materials.
-Be proficient in operating one or more pieces of equipment:
Molecule purification and characterization: Puriflash, HPLC, GC, FTIR, NMR
Evaluation of metal recovery processes (ICP, FX analysis); Solid-state analysis (XRD, FT-IR, etc.)
- Conduct laboratory notebook report
- Disseminate and promote results through reports and presentations.
- Participate in the unit's collaborative tasks.
- Comply with health and safety regulations

Your Profil

Skills

Scientific skills:
- Multi-step organic synthesis
- Purification methods (e.g. chromatography and distillation) and characterisation techniques (e.g. NMR and FTIR).
- Knowledge of hydrometallurgical processes and associated characterisation techniques (ICP, XRF).
- General knowledge of solid-state characterisation (XRD, FTIR, etc.).
- General knowledge of coordination chemistry and speciation.

Other skills:
- Ability to use computer tools for data collection and processing.
- Ability to draft technical procedures
- Ability to deliver presentations (oral and written).
- Level 2 oral and written fluency in English.

Your Work Environment

The main mission of the LTSM (UMR5257 - Marcoule facilities: https://www.icsm.fr/index.php?pagendx=app_140 ) is to conduct fundamental research based on understanding and controlling the phenomena that influence ionic separation by means of specific ion equilibria between two fluids separated by an interface and conditioned by organised molecular systems (micelles, microemulsions, colloids, liquid crystals). Research is therefore focused on the synthesis of specific ligands and materials for ion separation, used in conventional (liquid/liquid, solid/liquid) or non-conventional (membranes, pertraction, ionic liquids) extraction processes, with an emphasis on understanding the mechanisms that govern separation. The aim is to develop an approach based on detailed characterisation combined with multi-scale modelling in order to establish predictive models that can then be used to optimise extractant systems. Beyond the purely nuclear field, these selective effects are studied and implemented in various processes linked to the recycling of materials associated with energy production and, more generally, with a view to sustainable development, for example in decontamination or the selective recycling of strategic metals.
