Supported transition metals such as iron, cobalt and nickel are often the catalysts of choice for many sustainable processes for fuels and energy production.
A drawback of these relatively cheap metals is that they sinter and become less active. During the last decade advanced synthesis methods have tried to design catalysts that are intrinsically resistant to sintering by encapsulation or confinement of the active metal particles.
This research project will focus on the design of sintering resistant transition metal catalyst on relevant supports. A series of encapsulated metal particles will be synthesized and characterized by a variety of physical-chemical techniques. The catalysts will be used in applications such as Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and upgrading of pyrolysis oil.
-Synthesis and characterization of catalysts
-Catalytic tests in collaboration with qualified technical staff
PhD in catalysis and/or chemical engineering, with skills in chemical synthesis, characterization techniques for micro/meso porous materials, testing of catalysts and data interpretation.
Excellent communication and organization skills
Strong team player skills and enthusiasm about working self-dependently in interdisciplinary environments
