Job Description
Missions
The research proposal is a part of the Optisfuel project in the framework of the BBEST PEPR.
The project aims to valorise syngas derived from biomass via the OX-ZEO process. This relay catalytic process combines a hydrogenating metal oxide to produce an intermediate (methanol or ketene) and an acidic zeotype to selectively convert the intermediate to chemicals or fuels. GaZr oxides combined with H-ZSM5 were reported as highly efficient for the hydrogenation of both CO and CO2 to methylated aromatics but the origin of such efficiency remains poorly understood.
Activity
the project proposes to decipher the reaction mechanism leading to high selectivity to methylated aromatics. This wil be achieved establishing conversion-selectivity curves at different temperatures and pressures and by co-feeding some potential intermediates. In a second step, key reaction parameters and catalysts properties enabling to reach maximal performance will be identified.

Skills
The recruited researcher should have strong skills in heterogeneous catalysis including catalytic testing in both batch and fixed bed reactors.
Your Work Environment
The Lyon Institute for Research into Catalysis and the Environment (IRCELyon) is a joint research unit under the supervision of the CNRS and the University of Lyon 1. With around 100 staff from the CNRS and the higher education sector, and a similar number of student interns, postdoctoral researchers and visiting researchers, it is one of the largest catalysis research laboratories in France and Europe.
The work will take place within the CATREN team, which specialises in heterogeneous catalysis for the energy transition. This team comprises 30 members, including 9 researchers, 3 technical staff, 3 postdoctoral researchers, 7 PhD students and 8 trainees. Its research focuses on three main areas: heterogeneous catalysis for the transformation of C1 compounds (primarily methane, methanol, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide); the conversion of energy into chemicals (power-to-chemicals); and the conversion of bio-resources and fossil resources.
The work will be carried out in collaboration with IFPEN.
