Missions
The CNRS is hiring a postdoctoral researcher for a period of 15 months to join the European collaborative project “DREAM” (EIC Pathfinder Open project), which brings together six academic laboratories and one industrial partner around the chemical transformation of complex matrices. The project focuses in particular on the recovery of black liquor from the paper industry. (https://dream.cnrs.fr).
The candidate will be responsible for designing methods for online analysis of complex matrices derived from industrial black liquors and by-products. The techniques used will include spectroscopic techniques (IR, UV, NMR), chromatographic techniques (GC, HPLC, GPC) and/or elemental analysis techniques. He/she will also be responsible for disseminating methods among the consortium teams (short-term national and international travel to be expected).
Activities
o Develop offline methods for analyzing complex matrices (UV-Vis, NMR, HPLC, SEC)
o Develop online analysis tools (UV-Vis, NMR, conductimetry) for complex matrix transformation processes
o Develop statistical methods for correlating analytical data
o Write protocols and train users in the analytical methods
o Conduct a literature survey and write publications
o Compile experimental data and communicate with the modelling team.
Skills
The candidate must:
o Hold a PhD in Chemistry, preferably in Analytical Chemistry.
o Have in-depth knowledge of NMR.
o Have knowledge of biomass chemistry.
o Be fluent in English.
o Be able to work in a team and in a multidisciplinary environment.
o Be able to work in compliance with the safety rules in force in the working environment.
Work Context
The postdoctoral contract will be hosted at IRCELYON/CNRS Laboratory, located at 6, rue Victor Grignard in Villeurbanne, on La Doua campus, in Lyon metropolitan area. IRCELYON offers a dynamic and stimulating working environment focused on research in catalysis and environmental chemistry (https://www.ircelyon.univ-lyon1.fr/).
CNRS benefits:
o Public transport reimbursement (75%) or sustainable mobility allowance of up to 300€/year
o Work site accessible by public transport
o Public health insurance included in salary and financial contribution to complementary health insurance
The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
Constraints and risks
o Short-term international missions (Europe).
o Laboratory work and handling of chemicals.
o Position in a ZRR (Restricted Access Area) laboratory.
