Missions
The electrochemical oxidation of organic molecules like alcohols for H2 production is attracting increasing interest as an alternative to conventional water electrolysis, due to the lower potentials required (i.e., lower H2 cost) and the possibility of generating value-added chemicals instead of oxygen on the anode. This research project aims to study the room-temperature electrooxidation of model biomass-derived molecules like glucose or 5-hydroxymethylfurfural by operando spectroscopy (mostly Raman and Reflectance-Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy), using Ni-based anode materials. The research activities of the post-doc researcher will focus on the study of the influence of the applied potential and electrolyte pH on the activity and selectivity of the Ni catalysts and the understanding of the reaction mechanisms.
Activités
The researcher will be in charge of the:
- Preparation and characterization of anode materials (responsibility)
- Conducting electrochemical tests coupled with operando spectroscopy (responsibility)
- Analysis and interpretation of results (responsibility)
- Formatting results for presentations, publications and reports in English (responsibility)
Compétences
PhD in chemistry, physical chemistry, catalysis or electrochemistry with:
- Strong skills in physico-chemistry of materials
- Strong skills in vibrational spectroscopy
- Strong skills in electrochemistry
- High level of English
- Motivation and autonomy
Contexte de travail
The researcher will work in the CARE team (Catalytic and Atmospheric Reactivity for the Environment) of the Institute of Researches on Catalysis and Environment of LYON (IRCELYON). This academic laboratory located in Villeurbanne (France) is fully devoted to heterogeneous catalysis. The CARE group is focus on environmental topics such as the production and the storage of hydrogen.
