Job Description
Missions
Hydrogen is emerging as a key solution for decarbonizing industry and heating, whether used pure or blended with fossil fuels. Its combustion, which is exothermic and produces only water, offers a major advantage. However, its explosive nature (at concentrations as low as 4% in air) limits its deployment, particularly in industrial and domestic applications.
Catalytic combustion of hydrogen (CCH) provides a safer alternative:
Operates at low temperatures (from room temperature, thanks to reduced noble metal catalysts)
Flameless, CO₂-free, and features self-ignition (no spark required)
Compatible with lean hydrogen mixtures (below the explosivity threshold)
Activity
As part of the development of new room-temperature active catalysts, you will be responsible for:
Synthesizing inorganic catalysts and performing metal deposition.
Characterizing the obtained phases using available laboratory techniques (XRD, SEM-TEM, XPS, calorimetry).
Designing and conducting CCH experiments on IRCELYON's test bench, coupled with online gas chromatography (GC).
Your Profil
Skills
preffered PhD in Chemistry less than 3 years
Key Skills:
Synthesis of inorganic materials (solid-state and solution routes).
Characterization (XRD, SEM-TEM, XPS, calorimetry).
Heterogeneous gas-phase catalysis.
Your Work Environment
