Missions
Experimental research project at the interface of synthetic organic chemistry and theoretical chemistry. The work envisaged concerns the synthesis of poly-functionalized molecules and mechanistic studies of stereocontrolled aziridine openings.
Activities
Capitalizing on promising preliminary results and on the the expertise of the host teams in enantioselective synthesis, the idea is:
i) to study the potential of aziridines as starting points for the enantioselective synthesis of complex, polyfunctionalized molecules with a tetrasubstituted stereogenic center, and ii) to understand the mechanisms governing the regioselectivity of these transformations.
This partnership leverages complementary and essential expertise at the interface of synthetic organic chemistry and theoretical chemistry for the synthesis of highly functionalized molecules and the study of the reaction mechanisms associated with these transformations.
Skills
The candidate (M/F) should have solid experience in organic synthesis (theoretical and practical) as well as in separative and analytical techniques (NMR, MS, IR ...). Experience in asymmetric organocatalysis and multi-step synthesis will be highly appreciated. The project concerns the experimental and computational study of the mechanisms governing the transformations carried out. Experience in theoretical chemistry will be appreciated but is not a prerequisite. The candidate (M/F) will receive the necessary training in computational chemistry from the internship supervisor. However, a keen interest in research, experimentation and theoretical chemistry to understand the mechanisms involved is essential. The candidate (M/F) must be serious, rigorous, autonomous, dynamic and motivated to successfully complete this project. Candidates must be able to work as part of a team and communicate their results in group seminars, symposia and congresses. Fluency in English is a prerequisite.
Work Context
This postdoctorate will be carried out under the supervision of Dr. Eric Clot (CNRS Researcher) at the Bâtiment Recherche Balard - campus CNRS Montpellier at the ICGM (D5- Theoretical Physical Chemistry and Modeling). It will be carried out in close collaboration with Dr. R. M. de Figueiredo and Prof. J.-M. Campagne (D1-Department of Chemistry and Molecular Materials). This geographical approach will facilitate exchanges between the two teams and the progress of the planned work.
The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
Constraints and risks
Experimental bench work in synthetic organic chemistry.
