Job Description
Missions
The researcher hired will actively participate in the scientific development of the GREENPOWER project, which aims to design a new generation of polymer materials for power electronics modules, incorporating performance, sustainability, reparability, and circularity considerations from the design stage onward. Their main responsibilities will include:
• designing new bio-based or sustainable polymer formulations suited to the various functions of power module packaging;
• developing high-performance thermoplastic materials for structural functions;
• developing and characterizing reversible polymer networks for assembly functions;
• developing innovative encapsulation materials with viscoelastic behavior suited to the stresses of electronic components;
• Incorporate functional fillers to control the thermal, mechanical, electrical, and rheological properties of materials;
• Study the relationships between chemical structure, formulation, processing methods, and final properties;
• Process materials using appropriate methods (compounding, extrusion, injection molding, additive manufacturing, casting, etc.);
• Conduct the thermal, mechanical, rheological, dielectric, morphological, and physicochemical characterizations required for the project;
• Participate in scientific meetings with academic and industrial partners;
• Disseminate results through international publications, scientific presentations, and contributions to project deliverables.
Activity
The researcher hired will contribute to the development of the GREENPOWER project by conducting research covering the entire design chain for polymer materials intended for the packaging of power electronics modules. In this capacity, the researcher will be responsible for:
• conducting scientific and technological monitoring of polymer materials used for the protection, assembly, and encapsulation of power electronics modules;
• designing, synthesizing, and/or formulating new sustainable polymer matrices, prioritizing bio-based resources when they enable the desired performance to be achieved;
• develop polymer composites incorporating functional fillers to tailor the thermal, mechanical, electrical, and rheological properties of the materials;
• develop reversible structural adhesives and innovative encapsulation materials suited to the demands of power modules;
• process the materials using various methods (compounding, extrusion, injection molding, molding, additive manufacturing, etc.);
• characterize materials using thermal, rheological, mechanical, dielectric, morphological, and physicochemical techniques;
• analyze the relationships between molecular structure, formulation, processing methods, microstructure, and functional properties;
• participate in the design, analysis, and interpretation of experimental campaigns in collaboration with the project's academic and industrial partners;
• contribute to the scientific dissemination of the research by authoring international publications, presenting results at conferences, and participating in consortium meetings;
• provide occasional supervision to interns or master's students involved in the project.
Your Profil
Skills
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in polymer chemistry, materials science, physical chemistry, or a related field. Experience in several of the following areas will be particularly valued: • macromolecular chemistry; • thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers; • formulation of polymer composites; • epoxy networks and cross-linked polymers; • bio-based materials; • polymer rheology; • polymer processing and/or recycling; • thermal (DSC, TGA, DMA), mechanical, and dielectric characterization. The ability to conduct research at the interface between basic research and industrial applications will be a significant asset.
Your Work Environment
The researcher will join a team specializing in the physicochemistry of polymers, the formulation of advanced materials, and the study of structure–process–property relationships. In addition to collaborating with their host team, the researcher will interact with various external partners involved in the same research program. Travel will be scheduled on a regular basis to facilitate these scientific exchanges.
