Missions

The researcher will investigate the structural dynamics and the catalytic properties of
single-atom catalysts, named SCALMS, under realistic conditions of temperature and gas pressure.

Activities

-Provide English reports on the state of the art of the studied systems
-Run DFT calculations and perform ab initio molecular dynamic simulations
-Analyse and interpret results
-Write publications and present the results in national and/or international conferences.

Skills

Candidates should have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science, with experience in computational chemistry, theoretical chemistry, or molecular modeling. Experience in computer programming with python will be an advantage.

Work Context

The work will be developed in the Theoretical Physical Chemistry and Modeling” department (ICGM, Montpellier). The department has access to computer facilities and computational resources through in-house servers and GENCI national resources (4-5 million hour.cores/year).

Project
Supported catalytically active liquid metal solutions (SCALMS) are emerging new class of heterogeneous catalysts with promising properties. In the SCALMS concept, a low melting and typically catalytically inactive metal (e.g., Ga) is doped with a small amount of a catalytically active metal (e.g., Pd, Rh, Pt). Then, under reaction conditions, the precious metal is fully dissolved in the liquid matrix and is highly mobile, forming single atom sites at the liquid alloy-gas interface. The aim of our theoretical project is to investigate the structural dynamics and the catalytic properties of these single-atom catalysts under realistic conditions of temperature and gas pressure. The project will benefit from strong collaborations with experimental groups from Poitiers (IC2MP) and Paris (MPQ) where the studied systems will be synthesized and characterized.
Candidates
Applicants should have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science, with experience in computational chemistry, theoretical chemistry, or molecular modelling. Experience in computer programming with python will be an advantage.
Position details
The CNRS postdoctoral position is available for 12 months, starting from October 2022 (no later than January 2023). The project is funded by the French ANR (Agence Nationale pour la Recherche).
