In this post-doctoral position, the candidate will be responsible of the design and chemical synthesis of compounds with a potential interest in the treatment of Malaria. She/He will interact with collaborators of different disciplines involved in the biological and structural characterization of the synthesized compounds. Biological and structural studies will be held at Institut Pasteur in Paris.
Development of inhibitors of a Plasmodium peptidase, including:
- Chemical synthesis of special amino acids
- Chemical synthesis of pseudo-peptidic compounds
- Characterization (NMR, HPLC, LC-MS,...)
- General skills and knowledges of an organic chemist with a PhD.
- If necessary, the candidate will be formed to specific chemical methodologies including solid phase synthesis.
- If necessary, the candidate will be formed to the HPLC purification of compounds.
Created in 2007 by Prof. Jean Martinez, the « Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron » (IBMM), currently directed by professor Pascal Dumy, is a research institute of international renown and one of the four founder Institutes of the Balard Chemistry Pole of Montpellier.
The research activities of IBMM are situated at the interface between chemistry and biology, they concentrate on essential biomolecules such as peptides and proteins, lipids, nucleosides, nucleotides and nucleic acids, glycosides,..., and concern their design, synthesis and pharmacology. These biomolecules are used as basic molecules in pharmacology for studying the physiological and pathological mechanisms to which they are associated. They are also the essential precursors of future drugs (treatment of human pathologies in the infectious, cardiovascular, degenerative pathologies, cancer…, domains).
IBMM's strengths lie in the diversity of the skills and in the complementarity of the different teams of the Institute, in the international recognition, in the numerous academic and industrial collaborations, and in its technology valorization, innovation and transfer actions. The IBMM is also an attractive center for future junior researchers thanks to the diverse training opportunities it offers on the basis of its expertise capacities and of its know-how in terms of design, analysis and discovery of the future drugs.
At IBMM, the Supervisor's Team (“Amino-Acids, Peptides, Heterocycles”), situated at the faculty of pharmacy, possesses an internationally acknowledged expertise in the solid phase synthesis of peptides and pseudopeptides, characterized by an extended panel of applications (therapeutics, vectorization, materials).
Constraints and risks
Usual safety rules related to the practice of organic chemistry (lab coat, protection glasses, work under hood).
Formation to rules specific to lab will be given (in particular, chemical waste management).
To apply, send complete CV, PhD resume, marks obtained during second year of Master, and motivation letter with at least two references.
