Missions

The SUBUTTEC project aims at understanding the link between evolving paleogeography since 20 Ma and present-day biodiversity (plants, terrestrial animals). The postdoc will achieve a paleogeographic reconstruction of the Eastern Caribbean realm in the frame of the Work Package 2 of SUBUTTEC. This reconstruction is the core of the project as it will serve as both testing (i) hypothesis for biogeographers and evolutionary biologists of the WP1 and (ii) input parameters for Earth-like models of the WP3. This reconstruction will be constrained by available literature data (implying a synthesis of paleoenvironmental information, sea level variations, nature of volcanism, position of microblocks already implemented in GPlates software by our team and will integrate novel results of SUBUTTEC project. The postdoc is thus expected to have a strong experience with the GPlates software and to interact with the other participants of the ANR tasks: biologists (WP1) and modelers (WP3 and 4).

Activities

Bibliographic synthesis, database compilation, Implementation of geological informations in GPlates and Terra Antiqua, publications, participation to international conference and outreach.

Skills

Expert knowledge in GPlates, QGIS, understanding the processes of geodynamical reconstructions, experience with field data acquisition, sampling and analysis will be considered as positive.

Work Context

The person recruited will work on Work Package number 2 of the ANR SUBUTTEC. This scientific project is being carried out by a consortium comprising UMR Géosciences Montpellier, ISterre Grenoble, le Laboratoire Terre et Planète de Lyon (ENS), and UMR BOREA. The position will be based at Géosciences Montpellier (France).
