Missions
The Postdoctoral Fellow will study the French lithospheric state combining geophysical datasets from national geophysical networks. The objective is to publish a joint density – seismic velocity model beneath metropolitan France for the first 200 km depth.
Activités
The successful candidate will conduct joint inversions of geophysical data (mainly gravimetry, gradiometry and seismology) to image the lithospheric state and structure beneath metropolitan French territory. This project will rely on existing codes and the coupling between satellite and terrestrial data for gravimetry (GRACE) and gradiometry (GOCE). A particular focus will be the effect and the benefit when considering long-wavelength of satellite gradiometry in the resulting models. A specific interest will be also the introduction of variance as a parameter to estimate uncertainties in the joint inversion scheme.
Compétences
The successful candidate should have:
· Completed doctoral degree in computational geodynamics, geophysics, planetary science, or a related/equivalent field at the time of appointment
· Extensive experience in data post processing and visualisation and in data inversion
· Proficiency in at least one programming language
Additionally, preference will be awarded to candidates who have:
· Experience with geophysical data treatment
· knowledge in numerical methods and in FORTRAN programming language
Contexte de travail
The position is funded by an ANR grant on the building of an open 3D reference model of the lithosphere beneath metropolitan France (FRlitho3D). The project combines seismological data from the permanent national network (RESIF-RLBP), from temporary experiments (PYROPE, ALParray) and gradiometry and gravimetry data from satellite missions (GRACE, GOCE) and terrestrial databases (BGI). The project gathers geophysicists from 6 universities and institutes, with complementary expertise in computational seismology, inversion, French geology and gravimetry. The candidate will work in close collaboration with Christel Tiberi and Stéphanie Gautier (Geoscience Montpellier), and will also collaborate with Roland Martin (GET, Toulouse).
We offer the opportunity to work in a stimulating and supportive research environment built on strong collaborative task and multi-team work.
Questions may be addressed to Drs. Christel Tiberi and Stéphanie Gautier .
Contraintes et risques
Not applicable
Mainly computer work, no fieldwork, travel for scientific meetings in metropolitan France.
