Missions
The Averof team, at the Institut de Génomique Fonctionnelle de Lyon (IGFL), France, is recruiting an experienced scientist/engineer to develop new transgenic tools and reporters in the crustacean Parhyale hawaiensis. The team studies leg regeneration in Parhyale, using transgenic tools, live imaging and molecular profiling approaches (see www.averof-lab.org). We have already established a range of transgenic markers and tools in this species (summarized in https://tinyurl.com/NatMeth, and reviewed in https://tinyurl.com/ParhyaleRev). We rely on transgenic approaches to identify and to study cis-regulatory elements, to develop transgenic reporters for live imaging, and to manipulate gene expression in a conditional and cell-type-specific manner. These efforts require generating transgenic lines efficiently and on a large scale. The recruited developer/engineer will spearhead this effort, both as a manager and a hands-on experimenter.
Activités
The recruited person will become familiar with the microinjection and transgenesis methods that have already been established in Parhyale. S/he will then coordinate the transgenic activities of the team, including streamlining procedures (microinjection, screening of transformants, establishing lines), developing new tools and transgenic lines of broad interest (e.g. cell/tissue-specific markers, tools for conditional gene expression, mosaic labelling and cell ablation), and training new team member in these approaches. S/he will author publications on the methods and tools s/he develops and the projects to which s/he contributes.
Compétences
- Experience in microinjection, transgenesis and/or CRISPR approaches
- Experience in cell or developmental biology would be an advantage, but not essential
- Organizational and interpersonal/collaborative skills
- Communication in English
Contexte de travail
The Institute of Functional Genomics of Lyon (IGFL) is an internationally renowned research centre, where scientific innovation and interdisciplinary collaborations are at the heart of our activities. The transgenic tools developer/engineer will be fully integrated in the Averof lab (www.averof-lab.org), where he/she will play a key role in the implementation of advanced transgenesis procedures, in close collaboration with the team leader, postdocs, doctoral students and technicians. He/she will participate in lab meetings, seminars, lab retreats and training. The team's working language is English.
The post is initially funded for one year by a grant from the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale, with a possible extension depending on additional funding. The envisaged starting date could be in June or September 2025.
