Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will investigate how intrinsically disordered regions and short linear motifs regulate protein interactions and cellular organization.
The project will focus on protein-interaction networks associated with the centrosome and primary cilium, with particular emphasis on the molecular mechanisms linking protein disorder, multivalency, cellular organization, and human disease.
Activity
The postdoctoral researcher will:
- design and conduct molecular, cellular, biochemical, and biophysical experiments;
- investigate protein interactions mediated by intrinsically disordered regions and short linear motifs;
- establish, optimize, and apply quantitative protein-interaction assays;
- perform mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, mutational analysis, recombinant protein work, and fluorescence microscopy, depending on the candidate's expertise;
- analyse quantitative biochemical, biophysical, imaging, and cellular data;
- integrate experimental findings with computational predictions generated within the research group;
- develop and troubleshoot experimental strategies;
- contribute proactively to the formulation of biological questions and the interpretation of results;
- present research findings at laboratory meetings, scientific conferences, and project meetings;
- prepare protocols, reports, and scientific publications in English;
- contribute to the scientific activities of the research group and the institute;
- assist with the supervision of students when appropriate.
Your Profil
Skills
Candidates should have:
- a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related discipline;
- strong experimental experience in molecular and cell biology or protein biochemistry;
- hands-on experience in at least two of the following areas: mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning and mutational analysis, recombinant protein expression and purification, protein-interaction assays, fluorescence microscopy and quantitative image analysis, or quantitative biochemical or biophysical assays;
- the ability to design, optimize, and troubleshoot experiments;
- the ability to analyse experimental data and interpret results within a mechanistic framework;
- the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in an interdisciplinary environment;
- strong organizational and communication skills;
- good written and spoken English.
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:
- centrosome or primary-cilium biology;
- intrinsically disordered proteins and short linear motifs;
- proximity-based or proteome-wide interaction methods;
- biomolecular condensates or multivalent protein assemblies.
Your Work Environment
The successful candidate will join the Protein Disorder and Cellular Function Laboratory at the Centre de Recherche en Biologie cellulaire de Montpellier (CRBM), a joint CNRS–Université de Montpellier research institute.
CRBM is a leading multidisciplinary research institute located in Montpellier, one of France's major centres for life-science research. It offers a highly international and collaborative environment, with access to state-of-the-art facilities in imaging, proteomics, cell biology, and biophysics.
The research group combines computational predictions with experimental validation to understand how the molecular properties of intrinsically disordered proteins are translated into cellular organization and function.
The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment combining molecular biology, cell biology, protein biochemistry, quantitative biophysics, and computational biology. A research engineer will provide support for cloning, recombinant protein expression, and protein purification, allowing the postdoctoral researcher to focus on experimental design, assay development, data analysis, and mechanistic interpretation.
The research will be conducted primarily in English.
