Job Description
Missions
We are seeking a computational scientist with experience in machine learning or data-driven modelling who is motivated to address fundamental questions in protein biology.
The successful candidate will develop and apply computational approaches to investigate intrinsically disordered proteins, protein interactions, biomolecular condensates, and their roles in cellular organization and disease.
Activity
1. Conduct computational research, from method development to dissemination of results
- Develop and apply machine-learning and data-driven methods for protein analysis.
- Integrate and analyse large-scale protein sequence, structure, interaction, evolutionary, and biophysical datasets.
- Investigate how the sequence and conformational properties of intrinsically disordered proteins determine interactions, biomolecular condensation, and cellular functions.
- Collaborate with experimental researchers to generate hypotheses, prioritize predictions, and support experimental validation.
- Contribute to publications, presentations, software, and computational resources.
2. Contribute to laboratory activities
- Participate in group meetings and the scientific activities of the institute.
- Contribute to collaborative projects within the research group.
- Assist with the supervision of students and interns, when appropriate.
Your Profil
Skills
Applicants should have:
- A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biophysics, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience in machine learning, statistical modelling, or data-driven computational research.
- Strong scientific-programming skills, preferably in Python.
- Experience in developing and evaluating computational methods and analysing complex datasets.
- An interest in protein science and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Good written and spoken English.
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Deep learning, protein language models, representation learning, or generative modelling.
- Protein sequence or structural bioinformatics.
- Intrinsically disordered proteins, short linear motifs, or biomolecular condensates.
Software development, high-performance computing, or large-scale data analysis.
Your Work Environment
The position is available in the Protein Disorder and Cellular Function Laboratory at the Centre de Recherche en Biologie cellulaire de Montpellier (CRBM, CNRS–Université de Montpellier).
The laboratory develops computational approaches to study intrinsically disordered proteins and their roles in protein interactions, cellular organization, biomolecular condensates, and disease. Its research combines machine learning, large-scale data analysis, biophysical modelling, and experimental validation.
The group has extensive expertise in computational method development for intrinsically disordered proteins and has contributed widely used tools for predicting protein disorder and disordered binding regions.
CRBM is a multidisciplinary and international research institute with expertise and facilities in computational biology, cell biology, imaging, proteomics, structural biology, and biophysics.
The working language of the laboratory is English; knowledge of French is not required.
