Job Description

Missions

The overall objective of the proposed research is to develop an advanced, physically consistent numerical model of the photovoltaic component of agrivoltaic systems integrated within its vegetative environment.
The methodology is based on a thorough literature review, followed by the development of a physical model for the photovoltaic component, drawing on work already initiated at the IES for modeling PV power plants (Ardalan Nasri's PhD thesis). This model will be adapted to the specific characteristics of the AgriPV application (module temperature, evapotranspiration, dynamic albedo) and then coupled with crop models. Multi-objective optimization techniques (genetic algorithms) may be used to identify optimal trade-offs between agricultural and energy production. Model validation will rely on data from existing agrivoltaic systems in partnership with local companies such as SunAgri and Engee Green, with whom we made contact during the roundtable organized as part of PV Star on March 31, 2026.

Activity

- Develop a photovoltaic model integrating geometry, radiation, and thermal balance;

- Integrate feedbacks from vegetation cover on photovoltaic performance;

- Couple the PV model with existing microclimatic and agronomic models;

- Analyze and optimize different agrivoltaic configurations using multi-objective approaches.

Your Profil

Skills

The candidate must have knowledge of PV installation modeling.
Proficiency in the Matlab environment is required.
Strong writing skills (scientific publications) are essential.
Fluency in English is mandatory.

Your Work Environment

The work will be carried out within the M@CSEE team at the Institute of Electronics and Systems (IES), under the supervision of Mr. Yvan Cuminal.

The IES is a Joint Research Unit between the CNRS and the University of Montpellier (UMR 5214 CNRS-UM). The unit is divided into nine research teams of varying sizes, covering the thematic areas of photonics and waves, materials, energy, system reliability in constrained environments, and sensors and instrumentation.

Constraints and risks

This position is located in a sector related to the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST) and therefore requires, in accordance with regulations, that your arrival be authorized by the competent authority of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR).

Compensation and benefits

Compensation
