Job Description
Missions
This open position is part of the French ANR “Target-Cav3” project. The successful candidate will be in charge of 1) characterizing the electrophysiological and pharmacological properties of disease variants of Cav3 calcium channels (Cav3.1), 2) studying the structure-activity relationships of these properties, and 3) characterizing existing and new ligands that modulate these channels and may be of potential interest for the treatment of diseases associated with gain-of-function variants of Cav3 channels.
Activity
Perform electrophysiological studies, using both manual and automated patch-clamp techniques, to investigate the gating properties (activation-inactivation processes) of Cav3 channel variants.
Characterize, using an electro-pharmacological patch-clamp approach, the sensitivity of these variants to Cav3 channel modulators.
Design and characterize a collection of Cav3 channel mutants to elucidate the gating mechanism and pharmacological sensitivity of Cav3 channels.
Implement functional and structural modeling approaches to interpret experimental observations.
Your Profil
Skills
Expert mastering of patch-clamp electrophysiological recordings of ion channels and analysis of electrophysiological data (experience gained during the PhD).
Skills in cell culture and transfection techniques.
Skills in computational modeling techniques.
Excellent ability to communicate about science and findings, analyze the literature, work independently, and collaborate as part of a team.
Your Work Environment
The project will be conducted at the Institute of Functional Genomics (IGF) within a team recognized worldwide for its work on Cav3 calcium channels and the study of calcium channelopathies. The successful candidate will benefit from the multidisciplinary expertise of the team and the Institute. More specifically, the project will be developed in close partnership with another IGF team specializing in molecular simulations of membrane proteins and AI-assisted pharmacology.
Constraints and risks
There are no specific requirements or risks.
