Missions

The general mission of the engineer will be to support a project recently funded by the ANR and led by Dr. Naudé at the Institute of Functional Genomics. The person will be required to perform in vivo stereotaxic surgery on mice (injections and implantations of electrodes and/or optical imaging windows), as part of a team that has mastered these techniques.

Activités

The engineer (M/F) will be responsible for stereotaxic surgery and must therefore have a degree in surgery. He/she will perform in vivo recording experiments and post-operative image analysis (histology). The candidate is expected to be keen to develop, maintain, and pass on high-level expertise in the various techniques of brain surgery in small animals.

Compétences

The following skills are required:
- Stereotactic surgery (validated by training)
Proven experience in at least one of these techniques:
- In vivo optical imaging (with implants)
- Electrode fabrication and implantation (tetrodes, LFP)

Contexte de travail

The Institute of Functional Genomics (IGF) is a multidisciplinary joint research unit of the CNRS, INSERM, and the University of Montpellier, whose research programs cover the fields of neuroscience, physiology, and cancer biology.
The IGF has a staff of around 250 people—researchers, teacher-researchers, engineers, technicians, postdoctoral fellows, and students—divided into 23 research teams, five technology platforms, and research support services.
The team consists of six tenured researchers, one tenured engineer, six doctoral students, deux postdoctoral researchers. All the equipment needed to carry out the experiments is available. The engineer will be trained in cutting-edge techniques by the team and will have access to training courses offered by the CNRS.
