The missions are in line with the objectives of the MOBILES project financed by the French National Research Agency (2021-2024; more info on the project here https://mobiles-projet.huma-num.fr/) which are to understand, on the one hand, how the spatial practices of international students are made more complex by nomadic digital devices and, on the other hand, how they participate in their socialization and in the enrichment of their linguistic, social and cultural repertoires. The MOBILES project consists in mapping the sensorial and emotional relations with places in order to propose a device to accompany students' practices based on a digital cartographic interface.
In the context of a teamwork with the other researchers involved in the project, the work will contribute to shed light on :
- the geolocalized digital practices supporting their spatial practices and their links to learning ;
- the evolution of the students' social network during their stay and language socialization
- the learning opportunities offered by interactions in and with the local urban environment.
One of the main tasks of the recruited person will be the development of two components of the investigation:
- participatory sensitive mapping co-design workshops;
- questionnaires that integrate spatial and digital components absent from most standard questionnaires: Language Contact Profile-LCP-developed by Freed et al. (2004) and SASIQ (Dewey, Bown, & Eggett, 2012) in particular, enriched by situated interviews.
The survey should allow the project team to determine the impact of certain variables (gender and sex, geographic origin, cultural context, and French language skills) on the appropriation of space and the learning of international students.

o Participation in the development of the survey methodology concerning the lived experience of the target audience: co-design workshops, different forms of situated interviews, different forms of questionnaires allowing the study of language socialization
o Participation in the implementation of the field survey, at INSA Lyon and the University Lyon 2.
o Participation in the scientific activities of the project :
- team meetings and seminars, organization of a conference and study days;
- activities of constitution of the corpus, of data notably audio-visual;
- transcription activities (textual and multimodal) and data analysis;
- activities of writing articles, activities of diffusion and communication,...
(this list is not exhaustive)

The candidate will have defended a thesis in Language Sciences, on a subject related to the project (didactics, mobility, sociolinguistics...). Knowledge in the field of language socialization, language learning in informal contexts and digital practices is expected.
The successful candidate will have an interest in the project's target audience and its situation, as well as in social geography, and therefore a significant appetite for fieldwork.
This doctoral contract is part of a multidisciplinary and collective research project, which implies a strong cooperation. The ability to work in a team, to be open to different disciplines and methodologies is essential.
Knowledge of complex corpora (audio-visual and language data, but also digital traces) would be an asset.
