Job Description
Missions
The candidate will contribute to the development and integration of West Nile virus and avian influenza issues into a participatory multi-agent model developed for the prevention of zoonoses as part of the PREZODE ZOOCAM project. The assignment aims to produce three functional prototypes that can be used in participatory workshops.
Activity
Adaptation of existing models - re-formulation of the socio-ecological system under study: Dynamics of mosquito and bird populations; Interfaces between wildlife and equine and poultry farms; Hunting and population control practices; Biosecurity measures. Definition of agents, interaction rules, and spatial scales. Review and co-development of the model with the project team.
Development using CORMAS - Programming the multi-agent model in CORMAS: Agents (mosquitoes, livestock farmers, hunters, institutions); Simplified epidemiological dynamics; Movement, reproduction, and mortality processes; Intervention scenarios. Parameterization and structuring of input data.
Support for participatory modeling - Preparation of stakeholder workshops (materials, scenarios) - Translation of local knowledge into simulation rules - Facilitation or co-facilitation of model testing sessions - Collection of feedback for prototype iterations.
Analysis and dissemination - Simulation of exploratory scenarios; Production of visualizations and indicators. Writing: Methodological note; Model documentation; Contributions to reports and articles.
Your Profil
Skills
Education: Ph.D. in ecology, geography, or environmental sciences with experience in supporting modeling; multi-agent systems
Technical skills: coding and multi-agent modeling (required), proficiency in CORMAS or an equivalent platform (NetLogo, GAMA, etc.). Programming (Smalltalk/Pharo/CORMAS preferred). GIS and spatial analysis (desirable). Basic knowledge of animal epidemiology (an asset).
Facilitation skills: Interest in participatory approaches. Ability to interact with non-academic stakeholders. Ability to translate local knowledge into modeling objects.
Key qualities: Independence and the ability to quickly produce a prototype. Initiative. Ability to work across disciplines. Rigorous approach to formalization and documentation.
Your Work Environment
The candidate will report to R. Mathevet (CEFE CNRS) and C. Le Page (CIRAD SENS) and will be part of an interdisciplinary team comprising: wildlife ecologists; epidemiologists; modelers; and institutional stakeholders in public health management.
