The agent recruited will be responsible for monitoring a field experiment on sorghum and corn, from sowing to harvesting the plants at maturity (grain production). The agent will follow the development of the plants and their growth (measurements of height, diameter and taking of pictures). In addition, the agent will participate in leaf harvests planned for molecular and microscopy measurements.


Main tasks (team work under the responsibility of the engineer in charge of the experiment):
- sowing and monitoring of plant growth
- follow-up of the development of the plants (notation of the different phenological stages)
- harvesting of leaves for laboratory measurements
- harvesting of whole plants for biomass and yield measurements

Secondary tasks (in collaboration with partner laboratories, autonomy to be acquired by the agent after training with the managers):
- analysis of histological sections of leaves (microscopy)
- image analysis
- DNA/RNA extraction (according to qualification)

- knowledge and mastery of basic techniques in molecular biology and/or microscopy (possible in-house training)

Work Context

The agent will join the ECOPAR team of the Centre d'Ecologie Fonctionnelle et Evolutive (CEFE, UMR5175, CNRS, Montpellier), whose research topics are mainly focused on the study of phenotypic variability in plants (wild and cultivated species). The agent will also be required to work on the experimental plots of GEVES (north of Montpellier, 10 min from the CEFE), as well as in the partner laboratories of the project (in particular in an INRAE unit located in the ARCAD building, 5 min from the CEFE).

Constraints and risks

No particular risk. Working hours can be adapted according to the planned harvests (early morning or evening work, occasional weekend work).
