Job Description
Missions
The person hired will run a research program combining neurobiology, behavioral analyses, connectomics, and functional imaging.
The postdoctoral researcher will take part in identifying the neural networks connecting the microcircuit identified by the team to its direct and indirect synaptic partners by using available connectomics resources (FlyWire, NeuPrint, Virtual Fly Brain). The candidate neural circuits will then be experimentally validated through neurogenetic approaches (Split-GAL4, neuronal activation and inhibition, RNAi) combined with behavioral analyses. They will also contribute to a second part of the project focused on the interactions between metabolic state and social behaviors. The goal is to identify the neural mechanisms through which physiological needs influence social decisions.
She will also take part in the functional analysis of the microcircuit recently identified in our lab (Prunier et al, 2026) using calcium imaging techniques. Part of the project will also involve developing and optimizing automated behavioral analysis approaches.
The recruited person will analyze behavioral, calcium imaging, and connectomics data, help write scientific publications, present her results at seminars and national and international conferences, and occasionally supervise Master's students.

Your Profil
Skills
The postdoctoral researcher should hold a PhD in neuroscience, neurobiology, biology, genetics, animal behavior, or a related field.
The candidate should have a strong interest in studying neural circuits and behaviors. Experience with the Drosophila melanogaster model and behavioral analyses is desirable.
The following skills will be especially valued:
• Experience in neurogenetics, neurobiology, or molecular biology
• Skills/mastery of microscopy and/or functional imaging techniques
• Approaches in connectomics and neural network analysis (FlyWire, NeuPrint…)
• Data analysis skills (MATLAB, Python, or R)
• Experience in automated behavioral analysis (FlyTracker + JAABA, SLEAP, DeepLabCut…)
The person hired will need to be autonomous, scientifically curious, proactive, experimentally rigorous, and genuinely able to work in an international collaborative environment. A good level of scientific English, both written and spoken, is essential.
Your Work Environment
The candidate will join the EXPLAIN team in the Animal Cognition and Neuroscience department at the Center for Integrative Biology (CBI), located on the campus of Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse. This lab is internationally recognized in the fields of behavioral neuroscience, animal cognition, and the study of the neural bases of social behaviors. The EXPLAIN team develops integrative approaches aimed at understanding the neural mechanisms underlying social behaviors and their modulation by experience and internal states.
The BRaiN project is funded by the National Research Agency and is supported by an international and multidisciplinary scientific environment. The postdoctoral researcher will interact daily with the lab's researchers as well as with several national and international collaborators specialized in behavioral neurobiology.
The CBI offers access to cutting-edge platforms in imaging and molecular biology, as well as an interdisciplinary environment that encourages the development of innovative projects. The recruited person will enjoy a high degree of scientific autonomy, take part in occasional student supervision, and benefit from an environment supportive of their academic career development.
The candidate will participate in regular meetings of the EXPLAIN team, interact with various project members, the department, and the CBI, and thus fully contribute to the scientific energy of the team and the department.
The initial contract duration is 13 months, with the possibility of renewal up to 30 months.
