Missions
The person recruited will be in charge of conducting experiments on the foragers of the ants Cataglyphis velox and Myrmecia croslandi, with the aim of advancing our knowledge on the mechanisms underlying their visual navigation in the wild.
Activités
- Experimentation with Cataglyphis velox ants navigating in the field in Seville (1 mission of 4 weeks).
- Experimentation with Cataglyphis velox ants navigating in virtual reality in the lab in Toulouse at CRCA
- Experimentation with Myrmecia croslandi ants in virtual reality in Canberra at the Australian National University (1 mission of 6 weeks).
- Weekly maintenance of Cataglyphis velox colonies maintained in the CRCA laboratory
Compétences
- Research experience >5 years post PhD on insect navigation.
- Experience with insect handling.
- Experience with field trips >30 days
- Experience with virtual reality protocols
- Able to speak fluent English
Contexte de travail
The project will be led by Dr Antoine Wystrach, with daily face-to-face follow-up (in Toulouse and in the field). The recruited person will be integrated into the BeeAntCe team, participate in weekly team meetings (to which he/she will present his/her research results), and in regular CBI seminars. He/she will participate in field missions in Australia with the supervisor and local collaborators.
