Job Description
Missions
The recruited person will be responsible for contributing to a research project focused on hydrogen storage and migration in clays, as part of the PEPR Subsurface as a Common Good programme. The main tasks include:
-Quantifying the underground storage capacities of reservoirs containing clays, using molecular simulations to assess hydrogen solubilities and characteristic migration times under specific pressure and temperature conditions.
-Validating the results obtained by comparison with data from the literature.
-Modelling the data obtained for clay systems in order to extrapolate them to larger scales.
Activity
The main activities will include:
-Carrying out Monte Carlo molecular simulations to determine solubilities and molecular dynamics simulations to assess hydrogen diffusion.
-Analysing and interpreting simulation results in collaboration with the research team members.
-Writing publications for international journals.
-Presenting research findings at scientific conferences.
-Collaborating with project partners and taking part in project progress meetings.
Your Profil
Skills
The required skills for this position are:
-A PhD in physics, chemistry, geosciences or a related field, with expertise in molecular simulations.
-Proficiency in Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulation tools.
-Skills in data analysis and modelling of thermophysical properties.
-Good written and oral communication skills in English.
-The ability to work in a team and collaborate with researchers from different backgrounds.
-Independence and initiative in conducting research.
Your Work Environment
The recruited person will work within the 'Thermophysical Properties' team at the Laboratory of Complex Fluids and their Reservoirs (LFCR) at the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour (UPPA). LFCR is internationally recognised for its expertise in modelling and experimental measurement of thermophysical properties applied to geosciences, particularly underground storage. The project is supported by the PEPR Subsurface as a Common Good programme and will involve collaborations with various academic and industrial partners.
Constraints and risks
The work will involve intensive simulations requiring the use of local and regional supercomputers. The recruited person will need to manage time constraints related to intensive computing tasks.
