Job Description

Missions

Develop and validate an alternative method of radiocarbon dating in lagoon-coastal environments using ostracods in order to improve the resolution of Palaeoenvironmental Age-Depth Models (PADM).

Activity

 Activity 1 : Sedimentary and ostracodological analysis
o Describe sediment cores and discriminate stratigraphic units;
o Select and collect sediment samples;
o Sieve (wet and dry) sediment samples;
o Identify, sort and prepare organic materials for radiocarbon dating (Posidonia, seeds, charcoal, etc.);
o Select and pick adult valves of Cyprideis torosa (ostracod) for radiocarbon dating;
o Pick ostracods and determine taxa in order to define assemblages and biozones.
 Activity 2 : Chronological analysis and PADMs
o Compare radiocarbon ages obtained from different supports in order to estimate local reservoir effects (ΔR);
o Study the spatial and temporal variability of reservoir effects in lagoonal environments.
o Study the ecological tolerances of ostracod assemblages in order to define biozones;
o Construct age-depth models that integrate uncertainties, sedimentary hiatuses and reservoir effects;
o Combine chronological, stratigraphic and biological data in order to draw up PADM.
 Activity 3 : Valorisation of scientific research and laboratory support
o ◦Write thematic bibliographic reviews;
o Produce graphical representations of results (stratigraphic logs, PADM, etc.);
o Write and disseminate scientific results (reports, scientific blog posts, scientific articles, etc.);
o Participate in student supervision and laboratory consumables management.
