Missions

The engineer will be required to synthesize heterobimetallic catalysts using an organometallic surface chemistry approach on various silica supports. Once these catalysts have been prepared, their catalytic performance in H/D isotope exchange reactions will be studied, continuing the work carried out by the team on the synthesis of labeled organic molecules (arenes, alkanes, ethers).[1-6]

Activities

-Synthesis of molecular complexes of tantalum, tungsten, hafnium, cobalt, and iridium
-Synthesis of heterogeneous catalysts using organometallic surface chemistry
-Characterization of materials (IR and solid-state NMR spectroscopy)
-Study of the reactivity of these complexes in various C-H activation reactions (monitored by GC/GC-MS or multinuclear NMR)

Skills

-Excellent command of techniques for handling compounds in an inert atmosphere (Schlenk techniques, glove boxes), preparation of highly sensitive compounds (pyrophoric).
-Excellent command of characterization and reaction monitoring techniques (multi-nuclear solid-state NMR spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, GC-MS, etc.)
-Expertise in heterogeneous catalysis (gas/solid or gas/solid/liquid) and kinetics
-Good knowledge of organometallic synthesis of group 5 and 6 metals (tantalum, tungsten) and organometallic surface chemistry
-Teamwork

Work Context

This work is part of an ERC DUO project, led by Dr. Clément CAMP. The research will be carried out within the MMAGICC team at the CP2M laboratory, located on the Doua campus in Villeurbane. The team is internationally recognized for its leadership in organometallic surface chemistry and catalysis. The laboratory has all the necessary equipment to prepare and characterize supported catalysts and study their reactivity (Schlenk equipment, glove boxes, ultra-high vacuum systems, GC and GC-MS, IR spectrometers, UV-visible spectrometers, liquid and solid NMR spectrometers, etc.).
