Missions

The researcher will be in charge of the implementation of geophysical approaches at the Guyaflux site, Paracou, French Guiana, to spatially extrapolate punctual information on soil obtained from conventional approaches and, therefore, understand variation of tree functioning at the site.

Activities

- Geophysical data acquisition using Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) and Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) at Paracou, French Guiana.
- Geophysical data analyses to provide conductivity 3D maps and 2D profiles
- Calibration of petrophysical relationships using data from in situ water content probes on the one hand, and water content measured in the lab on the other hand.
- Estimation of individual tree root footprint in the conductivity maps using in situ measurements of leaf predawn water content.
- Test of the relationships between diverse indices of tree functioning (pertaining to growth, leaf phenology…) and tree-level access to water estimated using geophysical data.

Skills

- Solid experience in application of geophysical approaches in forest systems.
- Experience in analyses of geophysical data
- Interest in forest ecology
- Strong ability to work collaboratively and within a multidisciplinary context.
- Ability to speak and write in French and in English.

Work Context

You will be hosted in the AMAP lab located in Montpellier, France (https://amap.cirad.fr/en/), and more specifically in the DYAFOR team (https://amap.cirad.fr/en/DYAFOR.php), which is one of the largest research groups in tropical ecology in Europe. You will benefit from the various skills in tropical ecology, vegetation modelling, and remote sensing of a large and enthusiastic team of collaborators.
