Job Description
Missions
The person recruited will be responsible for carrying out his/her research project within the host team.
Activity
A post-doctoral position is available in the Genome Dynamics and Maintenance group of Dr. Pei-Yun Jenny Wu at the Institute of Biochemistry and Cellular Genetics (IBGC) in Bordeaux, France. Our laboratory uses the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe to explore the processes that regulate DNA replication and genome maintenance, as well as the interplay between genome organization, gene expression and cellular physiology.
The post-doctoral project focuses on understanding how cells regulate the alternation between proliferating and non-dividing states, which is critical for development, differentiation, and the response to external challenges. Quiescence is one such state in which cells remain metabolically active and preserve the ability to resume proliferation. It has also emerged as an integral aspect of tumorigenesis, metastasis, and the acquisition of resistance to cancer therapies. However, while key features of the regulation of quiescence are conserved from yeast to human, we are only beginning to understand the mechanisms that maintain this particular cellular state.
A crucial and early step during the transition from quiescence to proliferation is the duplication and transmission of the genetic material. Interestingly, previous work from the team has shown that cells display a distinct pattern of replication initiation during the first S phase following quiescence exit. Moreover, our unpublished results have also uncovered a novel regulation of transcription in quiescent cells. Building on these findings, the project will investigate how cells organize genome duplication and how DNA replication interacts with other critical aspects of cellular physiology in this context, including gene expression, genome maintenance, and chromatin structure. We will take a multidisciplinary approach, coupling unique models that we have developed in fission yeast with state-of-the-art methodologies, from genome-wide to single cell.
Your Profil
Skills
We are seeking motivated candidates with an interest in discovery research and a solid training in genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology. Candidates with expertise in using yeast as a model organism and with the analysis of genomic data are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants must also possess a good level of spoken and written English, as all meetings and discussions in the team are held in English.
Your Work Environment
The project will be carried out in the Genome Dynamics and Maintenance team directed by Dr. Pei-Yun Jenny Wu at the Institute of Biochemistry and Cellular Genetics (IBGC). Research at the IBGC covers a wide range of topics in cell biology and metabolism, taking advantage of different model systems while strongly encouraging interdisciplinary approaches. The IBGC is a dynamic institute comprised of 13 teams representing around 100 international researchers. It is affiliated with the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of Bordeaux.
The current contract is until 31/08/27, with possibility of extension. The selected candidate will receive full support for applying to national and international post-doctoral fellowships.
