Job Description

Missions

The recruited postdoctoral fellow will investigate the effects of novel immunotherapies in both in vitro and in vivo inflammatory models. They will contribute to antibody production and perform detailed structural and functional characterization, leveraging multidisciplinary approaches.

Activity

The recruited postdoctoral researcher will be primarily responsible for the in vitro production and purification of antibodies with potential immunotherapeutic applications. They will subsequently characterize and evaluate their in vitro activity using isolated murine and human immune cells. Finally, they will assess the therapeutic potential of these antibodies in vivo, notably in a murine model of rheumatoid arthritis, as well as in other relevant disease models aligned with the team's research objectives.

The postdoctoral researcher will also play an active role in the broader research activities of the team. Their responsibilities will include designing, developing, and implementing experimental protocols related to the project, as well as participating in scientific and project meetings with research partners. They will contribute to scientific writing and grant applications, facilitate the transfer of technical expertise and know-how to other team members, and supervise and mentor students working in the laboratory.

Finally, the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to present and disseminate scientific findings at laboratory meetings, conferences, and other scientific events, and to contribute actively to the institute's collective and collaborative activities.

Your Profil

Skills

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in immunology or a related field, with at least one first-author publication or preprint. They should have strong technical and conceptual expertise in immunology and inflammation, as well as demonstrated experience in animal experimentation, supported by the appropriate certification or qualification.

Advanced expertise in multiparameter flow cytometry, particularly spectral flow cytometry, is essential, as is proficiency in techniques for quantifying inflammatory markers, including ELISA and related assays. Extensive experience in histology and immunohistochemistry, together with a proven track record in cell culture, is also expected.

Proficiency in molecular cloning and the generation of recombinant plasmids would further strengthen the candidate's profile. Experience with optical microscopy techniques, including fluorescence and confocal microscopy or equivalent approaches, would be considered an additional asset. Internal training can be provided where necessary.

Finally, a high degree of experimental rigor, attention to detail, and sound scientific methodology are essential qualities for this position.

Your Work Environment

The Institute of Pharmacology and Structural Biology (IPBS) is a joint research unit (UMR) under the joint supervision of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier University. Located on a 12,000 m² site at the heart of the university's main campus, IPBS benefits from a dynamic scientific environment within one of France's leading hubs for health sciences and biology. Further information is available at https://www.ipbs.fr/.

The project will be conducted under the supervision of Yoann Rombouts within the “Mycobacterial Interactions with Host Cells” team, led by O. Neyrolles. Further information about the team and its research activities is available at https://www.ipbs.fr/research/mycobacterial-interactions-with-host-cells/.

Comprising approximately 15 members, including seven permanent researchers from CNRS and Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier University, as well as several PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, the team provides a stimulating, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment.

Constraints and risks

The position involves chemical risks associated with the use of hazardous chemicals, as well as biological risks related to the handling of Biosafety Level 2 and 3 microorganisms, blood samples, and mice.

In addition, this position falls within an area subject to the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), a French regulatory framework governing access to and protection of sensitive scientific and technological activities. Accordingly, in compliance with applicable regulations, the appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to authorization by the competent authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR).
