Job Description

Missions

The "Cell Infection Dynamics" team, led by Virginie Stévenin (https://tinyurl.com/virginiestevenin), was established in May 2026 at IPBS (Toulouse) through a starting grant "Amorçage Jeunes Equipes" from the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale. The team aims to understand how intracellular bacteria, particularly Salmonella, remodel their host cell to establish an environment supporting bacterial survival and replication, with a particular focus on intracellular trafficking and nutrient transport.
The recruited research engineer will be tasked with developing innovative cellular and molecular tools to decipher these remodeling mechanisms during infection. He/she will join a young team and contribute actively to building the collective project, while benefiting from a solid institutional framework within the stimulating scientific environment of IPBS.

Activity

The research engineer will contribute to the team's scientific activities through the following responsibilities:
- Design and development of experimental tools in cellular and molecular biology, across diverse model systems including cell lines, bacterial strains, and intestinal organoids.
- Conception and implementation of experimental protocols, from initial design of the approaches to data acquisition (including through advanced optical microscopy) and dissemination.
- Training and knowledge transfer to other team members, contributing to collective skill development.
- Contribution to laboratory management and organization, as well as to the broader collective activities of the institute.

Your Profil

Skills

- Proficiency in molecular cloning techniques and recombinant plasmid generation.
- Proficiency in CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing approaches, including the generation of modified cell lines.
- Cell culture skills.
- Experience in microbiology, cellular infection models, and optical microscopy (fluorescence, confocal, or equivalent) would be an asset; in-house training can be provided.

Your Work Environment

The project will be carried out within the "Cell Infection Dynamics" team under the supervision of Virginie Stévenin at IPBS, UM5089, Toulouse, France.
IPBS is a joint research unit (UMR) of CNRS and the University of Toulouse (https://www.ipbs.fr/research/cell-infection-dynamics/). Occupying 12,000 m² at the heart of the main campus of Université Toulouse - Paul Sabatier, which offers high-level multidisciplinary training in science, health, and engineering, IPBS is part of one of the largest scientific research hubs in health and biological sciences in France.
