Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will participate in the DEVIN project (Numerical Modeling of DNA Electroporation Vaccination), which aims to investigate the physical mechanisms underlying the electropermeabilization of biological membranes and DNA transfer using pulsed electric fields. They will conduct experimental work on membrane and cellular models, in connection with the numerical modeling approaches developed within the project, and contribute to the dissemination and promotion of the scientific results.
Activity
- Preparation and characterization of giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs).
- Conducting electroporation experiments using pulsed electric fields on lipid membranes and cultured cells.
- Investigating membrane permeabilization, morphological changes, and lipid peroxidation.
- Culturing adherent cells and conducting plasmid DNA transfer experiments.
- Optical and fluorescence microscopy, image acquisition, and quantitative image analysis.
- Processing and analyzing experimental data and comparing the results with numerical models.
- Presenting research findings and writing scientific publications.
Your Profil
Skills
- PhD in biophysics, applied physics, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.
- Expertise and postdoctoral experience in cell biology and fluorescence microscopy.
- Expertise in the interactions between electric fields and biological systems, with hands-on experience in electroporation.
- Knowledge of membrane biophysics and molecular transport.
- Experience in finite element numerical modeling (COMSOL Multiphysics or equivalent).
- Proficiency in image analysis (ImageJ/Fiji) and scientific programming in Python.
Experience in lipid vesicle preparation, nonlinear microscopy, or extracellular matrix characterization would be an advantage.
Independence, scientific rigor, the ability to work as part of a team, and proficiency in scientific English are essential.
Your Work Environment
The position is based at the IPBS (Institute of Pharmacology and Structural Biology) in Toulouse, within the Cellular Biophysics team, which specializes in the interactions between electric fields and biological systems.
The DEVIN project brings together the IPBS, the Inria Centre at the University of Rennes, and the Ampère laboratory in Lyon, fostering collaboration between experimental biophysics and numerical modeling.
Constraints and risks
-Work in a cell biology laboratory, handling cell cultures, fluorescent probes, and electric fields.
