Missions
The successful candidate will participate in the scientific work in the team of Dr. Nushin Aghajari, Biocrystallography and Structural Biology of Therapeutic Targets (BBSCT) group, at the MMSB research unit CNRS/University of Lyon1 on the Gerland site in the south of Lyon. The work will be performed in the context of a postdoctoral position with support from the French National Research Agency (ANR), and aims at a better understanding of the structure-function-specificity relationships of sulfatases sourced from the human microbiome as well as marine environments. Structure- and functional studies of these enzymes will provide advanced and detailed pictures of the molecular determinants of sulfated substrate recognition.
Activités
The successful candidate will perform molecular biology, protein expression, biochemical characterization and structural biology studies. The candidate will moreover participate in data collection at synchrotrons, in the writing of protocols, manuscripts, preparation of scientific presentations, and in the supervision of students.
Compétences
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, creative, scientifically independent and team-oriented candidate. To be eligible for this postdoctoral position, candidates must have completed their PhD within the last 1-4 years at the start of the contract. A PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology or a closely related discipline is expected, and the successful candidate should have a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, protein expression and purification. Prior research experience in at least one of the following areas would be a plus: Carbohydrate active enzymes, protein chemistry, structural biology (x-ray crystallography, SAXS, electron microscopy…). The successful candidate should have strong communication skills, the ability to conduct research independently, to prepare manuscripts and presentations, and the ability to work with researchers, graduate-, and undergraduate students in the laboratory. Working language is English and/or French.
Contexte de travail
The successful candidate will join a team of biochemists and structural biologists, and will work with both researchers and students in the laboratory. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the partner lab (CERMAV Grenoble).
