Missions
Characterization of the molecular mechanisms involved in acquiring conjugative plasmids by the bacterium.
Activities
The recruited person will develop genetic systems to study the different stages of establishment of the conjugative plasmid in the new host bacterium at the population level using flow cytometry and at the single-cell level using real-time fluorescence microscopy. She will independently take charge of the various aspects of the project, i.e., experimental design, construction of strains and plasmids, phenotyping, data collection and analysis, writing of reports and scientific publications and oral presentations.
Skills
- Molecular genetics in E. coli bacteria (strain construction)
- Molecular biology (construction of plasmids)
- Fluorescence microscopy in a microfluidic system
- Flow cytometry
- Writing scientific reports and publications
- Oral presentations
- Teamwork in the laboratory
Work Context
This project is part of a research program funded by the National Research Agency (ANR) aimed at characterizing the molecular mechanisms involved in acquiring conjugative plasmids by the bacterium.
Constraints and risks
The project involves experiments in a BioSafety Level 2 laboratory environment.
