Missions
The position is available starting in January 2026, with the possibility of postponement.
The position is initially funded for one year, with the possibility of extension up to two years.
To contribute to scientific topics of the laboratory within the framework of a project supported by the French National Research Agency (ANR) which concerns the molecular mechanisms involved in the assembly of the cell wall of the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Activités
- To perform the molecular biology and bacterial genetic approaches required for the project.
- To perform the approaches related to protein biochemistry required in the frame of the project.
- To perform the optical and electronic microscopy approaches needed in the frame of the project.
- Manipulation of BSL2 pathogenic bacterial strains (Streptococcus pneumoniae).
- To write technical procedures and scientific articles.
- Presentation of results at national and international conferences
- To participate in the training of the new members of the team.
Compétences
The candidate should hold a PhD in Molecular Microbiology.
- Imaging of bacterial cells (phase contrast microscopy, epifluorescence, TIRF, FRAP, transmission and scanning electron microscopy)
- Molecular biology (PCR, cloning, site-specific mutagenesis ...) and bacterial genetics (construction of deletion mutant, translational fusions, insertion of inducible ectopic gene copy,....)
- Protein biochemistry (SDS-PAGE, affinity chromatography, Western-blot, co-immunoprecipitation, ...)
- Experience in handling Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Good knowledge of bacterial antibiotic resistance mechanisms
- Good knowledge of the English language
- Relational qualities proven
Contexte de travail
The candidate will be part of the team "Pathogenic Bacteria and Phosphorylation of Proteins" of the MMSB unit. He/she will contribute to the team's main research topic concerning the pneumococcal cell cycle. The team currently consists of 5 permanent staff (DR, CR and MC) and 4 non-permanent staff (M2, doctoral students).
He / she will work on a daily basis in relation with the researchers and students of the team.
The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
