The post-doc will be part of the « energy group » of the « Deposit and surface treatment » team responsible for the development of new materials for electrochemical energy storage. The work will be done under the supervision of P. Rozier, P-L Taberna and P. Simon within the framework of the European H2020 Project NAIMA (Na Ion MAterials as essential components to manufacture robust battery cells for non-automotive applications) whose aims is to target high energy density Na-ion batteries. The post doc project objective is to develop new positive electrode materials selected mainly in the NaxMO2 layered oxide family targeting energy density equivalent or higher than reported ones for Li-based homologous and to start upscaling of the most promising ones.
The post doc fellow will particularly contribute to
Select based on reported data best promising chemical compositions,
Synthesize using solid state chemistry selected compositions
Test the electrochemical behavior and performances using half cells,
Determine mechanisms of the reversible exchange of sodium,
Optimize the chemical process of most promising compounds to master microstructure and prepare upscaling.
The candidate must hold a PhD degree in Material Sciences ideally with specialization in the field of materials for electrochemical energy storage. Knowledge of solid state chemistry and of soft chemistry routes together with electrochemical characterization techniques are requested ideally with experiences in cell assembling in glove box. The candidate should present ability to work independently, be organized and has a very positive attitude to work in a team on multidisciplinary topics. Fluency in spoken and written English is requested.
The post doc will be mainly based at the CIRIMAT laboratory where all needed equipment for the synthesis, electrochemical characterization and operando XRD techniques are fully available. To complete experimental work, access to characterization platforms (synchrotron, XPS, XANES, …) and prototyping unit through French National Network on Electrochemical Storage of Energy (RS2E) is guaranteed. This project belonging to the European NAIMA project, the work will be performed in collaboration with academic partners and industries.
Constraints and risks
Short periods of travel for the use of technical platform of the RS2E or to attend project's meeting within europe should be expected.
