The candidate will be recruited within the Lyon Institute for East Asian Studies. She or he will contribute to the development of the Natinasia project coordinated by Fabienne Jagou in partnership with Béatrice Jaluzot. She or he will be responsible for preparing the databases (personal names, place names, political terms, etc.) in addition to the research work carried out by the historians on archive documents, diaries, travel journals, etc. The candidate will work with the researchers in situ and on her/his own directly on documents written in Chinese.
Segmentation and annotation of corpuses from the Western and Asian multilingual sources, especially Chinese, collected in the framework of the project
Retranscription into Chinese of the corpus of sources that are currently in image format
Digitisation of additional sources as they become identified during the project
Identification within the corpus of vocabulary related to nationalism, personal names and toponyms
Establishment of an inventory of digitised and non-digitised materials
Working in cooperation and interaction with the international team of researchers involved in the project
A doctoral degree
Training in Chinese studies, preferably in history
Reading texts in various Western and Asian languages
Word processing in Chinese and other Asian languages
Ability to organise and work independently
Fluency in English and Chinese
Digital humanities skills
The project aims to identify in multilingual sources, printed or handwritten, dating from the 19th and early 20th centuries, the elements attesting to the birth of nationalism in Tibet. The project will develop a documentary base and a database to identify and map the actors, ideas and movements involved in this movement. The person recruited will work in close collaboration with Fabienne Jagou and Béatrice Jaluzot on the segmentation and transcription of the data collected. He or she will be responsible for identifying relevant data in the corpus and integrating them into the database.
