The particle physics group at Laboratoire des 2 infinis – Toulouse (L2IT) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to strengthen our activities on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The successful candidate will join our team based at L2IT. His or her work will focus on the study of the Higgs boson (in particular di-Higgs production) and on reconstruction algorithms for the new inner tracker (ITk) of the ATLAS experiment.
The successful candidate will develop innovative analysis methods for a statistically optimal extraction of rare signals like di-Higgs production from ATLAS data. He or she will then use these methods to perform a measurement of one of the key parameters of the Higgs sector of the standard model, preferably of the Higgs self-coupling constant. In parallel, he or she will contribute to the development of the reconstruction software for the new inner tracker (ITk) of the ATLAS experiment.
We are looking for a young colleague who has obtained a PhD in particle physics no more than two years before the date on which they will join us at L2IT. Experience with experimental studies of the Higgs boson or of final states that contain photons and/or b jets, or experience with track reconstruction algorithms would be appreciated.
L2IT is a new laboratory that was established on January 1st, 2020. It is jointly operated by CNRS/IN2P3 and by Université Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier. The particle physics group is contributing to Higgs physics analysis and to the reconstruction software for the new inner tracker (ITk) that ATLAS will install for the high-luminosity phase of the LHC. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the other members of the particle physics group (two senior researchers and a PhD student), with members of the algorithms and computing group at L2IT, as well as with computing scientists in other institutes on campus.
Constraints and risks
Travel (short trips) to destinations in France and abroad is expected.
The application material needs to include:
- a curriculum vitae, a publication list, and the names and email addresses of three individuals who can provide letters of reference,
- a concise letter outlining your research interests and your motivations.
