Missions
This post-doctoral contract is part of a collaborative project aiming at the fabrication of dense clusters of plasmonic nanoparticles and polymer with non-linear optical properties. The objective is to demonstrate that the structure of these clusters enables a strong enhancement of their non-linear response, due to the plasmonic couplings and the presence of hot-spots. The researcher's missions will consist in i) formulating the clusters using microfluidic tools and steps of controlled particle suspension drying, ii) studying in details the structure and the linear optical properties of the clusters (absorption and scattering), and iii) produce homogeneous and dense thin films on transparent solid substrates by deposition of the clusters.

Contexte de travail
The project is supported by the French ANR and is a collaboration between the CRPP (META team) and the laboratory MPQ (Matériaux et Phénomènes Quantiques), Université Paris-Cité/CNRS. The researcher will work at CRPP (CNRS-Univ Bordeaux, www.crpp.cnrs.fr) and could travel to MPQ for short visits.
The META team has been developing research work on self-assembled metamaterials for the past ten years. Metamaterials are artificial materials whose structure is designed to induce specific properties of wave propagation, possibly unknown in natural materials. Our approach is based on the use of self-assembly and physics of soft matter to design, manufacture and assemble colloidal resonators of sub-wavelength size, constituting the “meta-atoms” whose response allows strong modulation of the amplitude and phase of the transmitted, reflected or propagated wave. New properties have been obtained on the one hand for ultrasonic acoustic waves and on the other hand for visible light. As much as possible, the work covers the entire research chain including (1) the design of materials (2) their development (synthesis of elementary bricks and assembly) (3) the study of their structure and their properties and (4) analytical and numerical modeling.
