Missions

In this project, hybrid colloids with tunable architecture will be designed from bioengineered filamentous bacteriophages specifically associated with microgels and nano-particles to form mesoscale analog of both star polymers and amphiphilic molecules. A rich phase behavior is expected that will be investigated both in the direct and reciprocal space combining microscopy and scattering techniques. By tuning the spatial distribution of the phage arms and reducing the valency to one phage linked to one microgel, amphiphilic hybrids will be also produced with the ultimate goal to create colloidal analogs mimicking molecular systems and being observable at the single particle level. Benefiting from the thermoresponsive properties of the microgels, the self-organization into hierarchical superstructures of both colloidal stars and amphiphilic analogs will be studied, opening the way of a better understanding of their self-assembly processes and phase transitions as well as the development of plasmonic materials.

Skills

A recent PhD in soft matter/biophysics or related area. Any experience in digital video microscopy and in Matlab coding is desirable. Good skills in English are essential as well as the interest for working in international and multidisciplinary environment.

Work Context

Postdoctoral position at Paul Pascal Research Center (http://www.crpp.cnrs.fr), a multidisciplinary research laboratory belonging to French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and to the University of Bordeaux (UB). The financial support will be funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) through a joint program with the Institute of Physical Chemistry at RWTH Aachen University (Germany).
