Job Description
Missions
The objective of this project will be, based on innovative results recently obtained in our laboratories (Nugraha et al. Advanced Science 2024; Nugraha et al. Journal of Materials Chemistry A 2026; Nazmutdinova, Nugraha et al. Advanced Energy Materials 2026), to explore new mixed electronic and ionic conducting materials to simultaneously replace the binder and the carbon additive in the electrode, to improve the conduction paths inside the electrode while strengthening their integrity.
Activity
Solid-state batteries are emerging as technologies of choice, replacing the liquid electrolyte with a solid electrolyte and the graphite negative electrode with lithium metal. However, many challenges remain, the main one being the control of chemical and mechanical properties at solid-solid interfaces. Conventional strategies are based on adjusting the active material/solid electrolyte ratio or introducing electronic conductive additives into the electrodes, then applying pressure to the solid-state stack. Nevertheless, chemical, electrical and mechanical interfacial instabilities are often the cause of limited long-term performance.
The objective of this project will be, based on innovative results recently obtained in our laboratories, to explore new electronic and ionic mixed conducting materials to simultaneously replace the binder and the carbon additive in the electrode, to improve the conduction paths inside the electrode while strengthening their integrity.
This research is funded by the ANR CESAR project and will be carried out as part of a collaboration between two neighboring laboratories of the University of Bordeaux, ICMCB and LCPO, and in collaboration with BayBatt at the University of Bayreuth.
Your Profil
Skills
Scientific profile and expected interpersonal skills:
• A PhD in the field of battery research, with expertise in electrochemistry of materials and solid-state chemistry and physics. Training in polymer chemistry would be an added value.
• Strong motivation.
• Excellent level of English (oral and written).
• Good communication skills.
• Team spirit.
Your Work Environment
Created in 1995, the Bordeaux Institute of Condensed Matter Chemistry (ICMCB) focuses its research on Solid State Chemistry, Materials Science and Chemistry and Process: designing, preparing, shaping and characterizing materials in order to discover, control and optimize specific functions. The ICMCB carries out fundamental research on model materials and/or materials with potential applications.
The ICMCB is a UMR with an average of 280 agents (permanent and non-permanent), with 3 tutelles, hosted by the CNRS and in total ZRR. The position is located in a sector covered by the Protection of Scientific and Technical Potential (PSTP), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that the arrival of the agent be authorized by the competent authority of MESR.
Constraints and risks
Mobility between 2 laboratories in Bordeaux on a daily basis, and during occasional missions in Germany, on large instruments (synchrotrons, neutrons, etc.) or at national or international scientific meetings.
