Job Description
Missions
The aim of the post is to produce the first Ga203 power component as part of the GOTEN project, enabling it to be characterised electrically, physically and optically in order to determine the optimal parameters for finite element simulation of Ga203 components and to identify and quantify defects in the material. Ga203 is an ultra-wide-bandgap semiconductor. It possesses the physical properties required to manufacture high-voltage, high-current components for sectors such as the smart grid. The INL has been working for several years on the physical characterisation of this material. Today, the quality of this material offers the prospect of manufacturing power components. Combining the expertise acquired on Ga203 at the INL, the INL's cleanroom facilities and AMPERE's expertise in power components makes it possible to propose this thesis topic, which is unique in France. In Europe, the United States and Japan, research projects are underway on the development of power components.
Activity
Expected original contributions :
- Fabrication of a Schottky diode for OBIC (Optical Beam Induced Current) measurements.
Research programme and proposed scientific approach :
- Literature review on Ga₂O₃ component technology
- Fabrication of a Schottky diode - Electrical characterisation, DLTS, Raman, OBIC.
- Optimisation of the finite element simulation of the Schottky diode.
Objectives for disseminating the research findings :
- Publication of articles in international journals, and presentations at international and national conferences. Depending on the results obtained, a patent may be filed.
Your Profil
Skills
Mastering the following processes in a cleanroom: photolithography, deposition of thin metal films, electrical characterisation using a Keithley 4200 or Keysight B1505 curve tracer, and Python programming.
Your Work Environment
The role of design engineer will be based at the Ampère Laboratory, on the INSA Lyon campus, as part of the PEPR GOTEN project.
By joining the Ampère Laboratory, you will become part of a research unit spread across four sites and recognised for its expertise in engineering and technology. Its work focuses in particular on the management and sustainable use of energy within systems that interact with their environment.
The laboratory is particularly distinguished by its expertise in the field of microbial biobatteries applied to effluent treatment and energy production. This excellence is underpinned by a strong interdisciplinary approach, combining expertise in bioengineering, electrochemistry, microbiology and electrical engineering.
The Ampère Laboratory comprises nearly 210 members, including researchers, academic researchers, engineers, technicians and PhD students, all working on ambitious research projects and cutting-edge innovations.
The post falls within a sector subject to scientific and technical security (PPST) regulations and therefore, in accordance with the regulations, requires your appointment to be authorised by the relevant authority at the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR).
Constraints and risks
Electrical and chemical hazards.
