Job Description
Missions
The aim of the postdoctoral research is to analyse the impact of recent intra-seasonal to interannual variability in the boreal winter dry season on forests in Central Africa in terms of greenness and water content.
Activity
Statistical analyses of satellite data describing forest dynamics, and their correlation with pre-defined climatic indicators for the dry season.
Your Profil
Skills
- Remote sensing (applied to tropical forests)
- Knowledge of (tropical) climatology is an advantage
- Statistical analysis of time series (correlations, composites, K-means clustering, random forest trees, hypothesis testing, etc.)
- Python programming and the Unix environment
- Ability to communicate results in French and English (writing scientific articles and giving oral presentations)
Your Work Environment
The Institut des Géosciences de l'Environnement (IGE, http://www.ige-grenoble.fr) is a French public research establishment under the supervision of CNRS Terre & Univers, IRD, Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), Grenoble-INP and INRAE. It employs some 330 people, including 190 permanent members (researchers, associate and full professors, research engineers), and around 140 PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and staff on fixed-term contracts. The Institute also welcomes several dozen interns and visiting scientists every year. The Institute is located on three sites on the Grenoble University Campus (Molière, OSUG-B and Maison Climat Planète). The IGE is one of the main laboratories of the Observatoire des Sciences de l'Univers de Grenoble (OSUG), a federative structure of the Institut National des Sciences de l'Univers (INSU) of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).
