Job Description

Missions

The researcher will be responsible for studying the interactions between ocean turbulence, the seabed topography and large-scale ocean circulation. This study will be carried out using numerical simulations of the global ocean and idealised simulations of the processes involved. The NEMO modelling platform will be the main tool used.

Activity

⁃ Familiarisation with the NEMO general ocean circulation model.
⁃ Conducting numerical experiments on a supercomputer.
⁃ Development of the NEMO code, specifically for ocean turbulence parameterisations and energy and vorticity balance diagnostics.
⁃ Analysis of model outputs and interpretation of results.
⁃ Writing of scientific publications.

Your Profil

Skills

⁃ Understanding of the physical processes governing oceanic turbulence and ocean circulation.
⁃ Proficiency in using numerical tools for ocean modelling.
⁃ Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
⁃ Previous experience in ocean modelling.
⁃ Organisational skills.
⁃ Ability to work as part of a team.

Your Work Environment

The role forms part of Work Package 3 of the IMPRESSION-ESM project, which is the targeted project 7 of the programme called 'TRansformative Advances in Climate modelling for Climate Services' (TRACCS; https://pepr-traccs.fr/). The IMPRESSION-ESM project aims to improve the representation of physical processes in climate models. The researcher will be based in the NEMO R&D team at the LOCEAN laboratory, located on the Jussieu campus of Sorbonne University in Paris (France). The NEMO R&D team has the necessary expertise in ocean modelling for climate research.
