Job Description
Missions
The IR's remit will be to implement and support projects involving natural history specimens that utilise synchrotron radiation and/or the equipment developed at IPANEMA.
Activity
Project support: - Develop collaborative research projects across various fields of natural history. Provide early guidance and advice to users on the implementation of experimental protocols and research methods. In particular, assist researchers in ensuring consistency between the experimental strategy, the technology used and the analytical methods employed. - Collaborate with the beamlines at the SOLEIL synchrotron, notably PUMA, and other research units. - Utilise emerging methods in spectral imaging and statistical data processing. - Participate in the interpretation of data in collaboration with research project leaders, as well as in the dissemination of findings, notably through the drafting of research articles and the provision of analytical tools developed via a system that ensures the reproducibility of analyses and compliance with the FAIR principles. - Monitor technological and scientific developments relating to these methods
Your Profil
Skills
Knowledge: Expertise in synchrotron imaging and in a field of natural history. In-depth knowledge of the mechanisms of taphonomy, fossilisation and weathering. In-depth knowledge of statistical analysis. Practical skills: Experience in characterisation using large-scale instruments, particularly in fluorescence, absorption and X-ray diffraction. Handling of heritage samples in accordance with the ethical standards of the field. Very good spoken and written English. Interpersonal skills: Excellent communication skills; Ability to work as part of a team; Independence, initiative and adaptability; Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and keep to their timetables.
Your Work Environment
IPANEMA, a research and service unit, is a European research platform specialising in ancient materials (CNRS, Ministry of Culture, UVSQ, MNHN). Located at the SOLEIL synchrotron site in Saint-Aubin, IPANEMA is unique in the world in that it is exclusively dedicated to the study of ancient materials (materials from archaeology, palaeoenvironments, palaeontology and cultural heritage) and is based at a major research facility. IPANEMA supports scientists studying ancient materials and carries out its own research activities, which focus on advanced imaging and spectroscopic analysis of ancient materials, as well as statistical data processing.
Constraints and risks
This is a part-time role, at 20 per cent. The employee may be required to work occasional shifts: evenings, nights and weekends.
