Marine habitats are under threat. Although the European “Habitats” Directive was adopted 30 years ago, the vast majority of marine habitats and species protected by this directive still have an unfavorable conservation status. This project aims to improve the conservation status of marine ecosystems by applying an ecosystem-based approach to the restoration and maintenance of marine habitats protected by the European “Habitats” Directive, and by proposing ways to improve the definition of a “favorable conservation status” for these and similar habitats.
