Job Description

Missions

Strategically and operationally manage the TwinRISE European project at GANIL, ensuring coordination of teams and partners, budget management, reporting, and institutional communication. Serve as the primary contact for the scientific coordinator, consortium partners, and the European Commission (together with CNRS Europe bureau).

Activity

• Develop and monitor the TwinRISE project plan (timeline, milestones, deliverables, resources) and manage associated risks (delays, conflicts).
• Prepare Horizon Europe reporting and reviews (Periodic Review, Mid-Term, Final) and ensure the quality of deliverables and progress reports.
• Coordinate development teams on project Work Packages (digital twins, federated infrastructure, data pipelines, containerization), applying DevOps/MLOps, CI/CD, and FAIR standards.
• Contribute to the TwinRISE internal steering committee and act as the interface between GANIL, the scientific coordinator, partners, and the European Commission.
• Contribute to contractual aspects management (consortium agreement, amendments).
• Contribute to scientific dissemination (conferences, ARTIFACT network – artifact-network.org) and ensure synergies with related projects (iRIS – irisproject.eu and other GANIL projects).
• Conduct technological watch.

Your Profil

Skills

Required Knowledge :
• Project management methods and tools for software and AI (Agile/Scrum)
• Horizon Europe project rules and procedures (or ability to quickly acquire them)
• DevOps and MLOps practices: CI/CD, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Distributed software architectures, REST APIs, ML frameworks (PyTorch, MLflow, or equivalents)
• Negotiation techniques
• English language: Minimum C1 level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Skills :
• Manage complex projects
• Coordinate multidisciplinary and multi-partner teams
• Master project tracking tools (GitLab, Jira, or equivalent) and planning tools (MS Project, GanttProject, or equivalent)

Your Work Environment

The "Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds" (GANIL) is a national research infrastructure specializing in heavy-ion beam research. Its research fields include fundamental nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, materials under irradiation, nanostructuring, molecular collisions and the interstellar medium, radiobiology, and innovative techniques for dosimetry and cancer therapy.
GANIL (approximately 350 employees) is located on the future EPOPEA site, a science and innovation park in the Caen la Mer urban community, in Caen, Normandy. It is jointly managed, as part of an Economic Interest Grouping (GIE), by the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA/DRF) and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS/IN2P3). As a research infrastructure, GANIL serves a national, European, and international scientific community of around 1,000 users.
In an international work environment, the recruited individual will be assigned to the Scientific Partnerships Support Unit (CSPS) at GANIL, reporting to the Europe Pole of the Paris-Normandy Regional Delegation (DR16), with a functional link to the scientific coordination of the TwinRISE project.

The TwinRISE Project
GANIL is the coordinator of the TwinRISE European project — Trusted AI-Generated Digital Twins for Research Infrastructures (Horizon Europe, 2027–2031, 19 partners). The project develops trusted AI digital twins for research infrastructures, including physical surrogates integrated into control systems (EPICS), federated learning preserving data confidentiality and explainable AI (XAI).
At GANIL, TwinRISE focuses on digital twins for science and federated learning for operation. It operates in synergy with the iRIS European project and the ARTIFACT dissemination network.

Constraints and risks

As GANIL is classified as a Basic Nuclear Installation (INB), the recruited individual must be authorized to work in controlled and monitored zones, in compliance with applicable safety and nuclear security regulations and procedures.

Regular travel is expected in France and Europe (consortium meetings, periodic reviews, conferences).
