The CFEE is the successor to the French Archaeological Mission in Ethiopia, founded in 1952. Renamed CFEE in 2007, the Research Center operates under the dual supervision of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) and the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS, UAR 3137). The CFEE's missions consist of supporting researchers in the humanities and social sciences with a view to producing knowledge; disseminating and promoting scientific output; providing training in and through research; and carrying out activities in the field of heritage (conservation, promotion). Currently, around 15 staff work at the center, including administrative and logistical functions as well as research.
The manager will be invited to take part in the scientific life of the center.
The center is currently located in the Kebena neighborhood, on Russia Street, between Menelik Hospital and Sidist Kilo.
Context:
The PAGENS (Pathways, Ages, Generations in the Global North and South) project offers innovative research on life courses, combining interdisciplinary approaches and international comparisons. It aims to better understand how age categories and individual trajectories are shaped by socio-economic, demographic, and cultural transformations in Europe, Africa, and South America. PAGENS brings together a team of researchers in anthropology, sociology, psychology, history, and geography, working in synergy with civil society actors and public institutions. Using participatory methods, innovative visual tools (photography, video, interactive mapping), and comparative approaches, the project produces in-depth and accessible analyses.
Funded under the Marie Curie Staff Exchange (Horizon Europe) programs, the project aims to structure a network of 22 partners in 10 countries (France, Italy, Finland, and the UK in Europe; Ethiopia, Djibouti, Madagascar, Togo, and Burkina Faso in Africa; and Colombia and Canada in the Americas). The program supports mobility initiatives linked to training and research programs. PAGENS is part of an open science initiative, with the publication of open-access articles, the creation of a database on life trajectories, and the dissemination of results in the form of podcasts, exhibitions, and policy briefs.
