Description of the thesis topic
The challenge is to establish a novel reconstitution method for spliceosome from human cellular extracts that will bring us closer to the cellular context.
The PhD student will use a combination of biochemical and structural biology methods: reconstitution of ribonucleoprotein complexes from cell extracts and/or recombinant sources, cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, mass spectrometry, etc. IGBMC has an exceptional scientific environment that is particularly well suited for this ambitious project. The institute hosts several cutting-edge technological platforms (electron microscopy equipped with two Titan Krios and one Glacios; cell culture; protein production; molecular biology; mass spectrometry, etc.) that give this project a good chance of success.
Work Context
The CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research), certified HR Excellence in Research, is one of the world's leading multidisciplinary public research organizations. The IGBMC (Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology), one of Europe's leading biomedical research centers, is a joint research unit associated with the CNRS, INSERM, and the University of Strasbourg.
The successful candidate will work at the IGBMC and benefit from an exceptional international scientific environment. The IGBMC has around 40 teams divided into four scientific departments and state-of-the-art technological platforms on site.
The PhD student's work will be carried out at the IGBMC's integrative biology center. He/she will have privileged access to the team's computing server (GPU node) and the institute's various platforms (cryo-EM, cell culture, etc.).
The successful candidate will have access to the CROUS restaurant.
The site can be reached by tram (line A, Campus Illkirch station) from Strasbourg train station or by car (parking available). Public transportation costs are partially covered.
Constraints and risks
Occasional travel for cryoEM data collection and participation in international conferences.
