Job Description

Thesis Subject

This doctoral project falls squarely within the field of the "bioeconomy" and, more specifically, that of "decarbonization." It opens up new avenues for biofuel production by employing catalytic processes that are both more sustainable and economically viable. In doing so, it contributes to the transition toward a circular economy based on renewable resources—specifically CO2, a co-product of gasification and steel production. Industrial decarbonization lies at the heart of the project. We will investigate the reaction to convert CO2 into biofuels using non-noble metal catalysts. This project helps reduce the industry's carbon footprint, conserve natural resources, and promote a circular economy, thereby paving the way for a more environmentally friendly industry.

Your Work Environment

The Lorraine Laboratory of Molecular Chemistry (L2CM) will serve as the project's lead laboratory, and the PhD student will be based at L2CM, located at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Lorraine in Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy. The L2CM's INTERACT team works on developing sustainable, efficient solutions to address current societal challenges. Interfaces play a crucial role across a wide range of scientific and technological fields, such as adsorption, catalysis, and the synthesis of nanostructured materials. Indeed, interfaces fundamentally influence adsorption processes and selectivity regarding molecular mixtures. The project will be carried out in collaboration with an industrial partner as part of the PEPR SPLEEN initiative.
