Job Description
Thesis Subject
Ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTC) with increased thermo-chemical stability for use in space at 2000°C
Your Work Environment
In the field of Ultra High Temperature atmospheric intakes, families of thermally and chemically stable materials are restricted and well identified, such as ZrB2/HfB2 + ZrC/HfC + SiC . The ability to passivate the surface to protect the material is directly related to the nature and microstructure of oxides formed by oxidation during use. Other elements providing even more stable oxides are now sought to increase the homogeneity of the passivating oxide layer on the surface. The objectives of this work are: (i) to increase the thermo-chemical stability of oxides formed by optimizing the composition of UHTC, (ii) to develop these materials (SPS) and (iii) to validate their behaviors, during tests reproducing conditions representative of the phases of spaceflight, under high flux at about 2000°C.
